Bay Roamers Water Taxi

Bay Roamers are the only truly local water taxi service. They can transport you to and from Homer, take you and your gear to park trail heads, transport kayaks, take you on a wildlife tour in the bay, and take you to and from guided kayak adventures and fishing charter trips. Carl Jones knows the cove and the area like no one else.

Halibut Cove Experience Gallery

Halibut Cove is an artist enclave and a visit to the galleries is a must. Visit the Experience Gallery (a co-op for local artists), and Diana Tillion’s Cove Gallery. Diana passed away in 2010, but she was known for painting with octopus ink, and some of her wonderful portfolio is on display.

Halibut Cove Coffee House

There is a coffee shop on the island! Stop in and see them for some fine espresso (even better because you can get it here) and treats. Hours 9-5 daily.

Kayaking

Bring your own, or rent kayaks in Homer (True North Adventures (907) 235-0708, will deliver) or if you need only one ask Bay Roamers (907) 399- 6200 to transport it to and from Homer. For guided adventures, call St. Augustine Kayaking and Tours (907) 299-1894. For water taxi and guided kayak combinations (which you will need if you don’t have a boat) call Bay Roamers and they will arrange both.

Dean Family Farm and Arts Studio [HOMER]

If you only do one thing in Homer, do this. Have you ever seen the movie Alone in the Wilderness? If you haven’t, you should. Take a tour of the Dean Family Homestead. Can you say make a hinge out of wood? These guys are amazing. See beautiful Alaska gardens, and handcrafted timber frame buildings, barns, chicken coops on stilts and hobbit-style rabbit hutches. Pet donkeys, a yow (a 2000 lb. part yak, part cow named Yeti), and hold a baby goat. These guys can make everything like it is nothing, You haven’t lived until you have seen the Dean’s farm. They also make beautiful art and have a small gallery. Just go. Take your kids. It may change your life. Note: The Dean Family Farm is in Homer, so plan it before or after your stay in Halibut Cove.
