The House

The Halibut Cove House is a rustic Alaskan cabin with luxury in all the right places.

View. A view of one of the most special places on earth from your private deck.

Accommodations. Sleeps up to 12. Three bedrooms, fourth bedroom optional.

  • Bedroom 1: Queen,

  • Bedroom 2: Queen,

  • Bedroom 3: Bunk room with two bunks, Queens on bottom (2), Twin XLs on top (2),

  • Optional-Bedroom 4: Boat house loft, Queen, sleep over the water.

Fully equipped kitchen. Everything you need for gourmet meals and cocktails, equipped with basic appliances and stocked with basic pantry items. Guests provide their own food and meals.

Luxury bedding. Comfortable mattresses, cotton-covered wool mattress pads, soft 100% cotton flannel sheets, hypoallergenic comforters with 100% cotton duvet covers.

Running water. 4 x 3 shower; high tech, multistage water filtration and UV treatment system; washer/dryer; indoor toilet, and a nearby outhouse too. Towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion provided.

Cozy. Environmentally-friendly wood stove and electric heat.

Other. Wi-Fi, over 200 movies on VHS & DVD, CD player, and headphone jack stereo hookup.


The Property

Located in beautiful Kachemak Bay, Alaska, Halibut Cove is a small artist and fishing community on Ismailof Island, 6 miles by boat from Homer. Access the island in your own boat, by the ferry Danny J, or by water taxi- and we can arrange the water taxi for you.

Access. A short walk from the Halibut Cove public dock at low tide, high tide access to the property's dock.

Privacy. A two and a half acre property, tucked in the hillside, trees for privacy while still maintaining the view.

Solitude. There are no cars on the island, and few residents. The property is located away from the most used boardwalks.


Halibut Cove transportation is largely by boat and one main trail/road. There are no cars but an occasional bicycle or four-wheeler. It takes 30-60 minutes to walk across the island, depending on pace. There are no grocery stores, or any other store on the island, so you need to think about what you will need and bring it. Fine dining. The Saltry serves lunch and dinner 7 days per week from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Espresso. The coffee shop on the island is a good place for a latte and a snack.

Art. Galleries on the island feature the work of the many talented local artists.

Boardwalks. Picturesque homes line wooden boardwalks clinging to the edges of the island. Guests respectful of the residents peace and private property can explore the beautiful views from the network of boardwalks during open hours. Excellent for photography buffs.


Homer is located on the Kenai Peninsula, in Southcentral Alaska, just south of Anchorage. It is a 35 minute flight from Anchorage, or a 4 1/2 hour drive. The area has it all. Epitome of Alaska beauty, mountain and sea, flora and fauna, and fun and quirky civilization.

The area

 

Hiking. Halibut Cove is surrounded by Kachemak Bay State Park. Hiking and glacier viewing are close.

Wildlife. Located near the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, wildlife in Kachemak Bay can include: Sea birds, migrating and resident birds, sea otters, sea lions, seals, moose, bears, and whales. Moose and bear are not common on the island itself.

Kayaking. Many adventures are possible in the area, both guided and self-guided.

Tide pools. Intertidal zone life can be explored on minus tides.

Homer. Nearby Homer is known for art, fishing, shops, and outdoor adventures. Many services and activities are available.
